Beyonce Serenades Michelle Obama, Cements Comeback In Atlantic City

Queen B ascends her throne during the second in a four-night run of Memorial Day weekend shows.

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — The "year of 4" continues.

Four months after giving birth to her first child — an arrival announced last August at the MTV VMAsBeyoncé returned to the stage Saturday night, on the second of a four-night run in this East Coast resort city. And it was a spectacular fitting her rising icon status.

So what kinds of clues get 20somethings calling you "the greatest performer" of your generation? Well, it's in the details. For one, Revel, the sparkling, 6.3-million-square-foot beachfront destination that played host to Beyoncé's comeback, devoted a channel on its guest-room flat-screen TVs solely to B-related content: no weather broadcasts, nary a "Housewife" and no commercial breaks; just videos, all-star performances and more, all through Memorial Day weekend. It was evident in the distance traveled, too, with fans telling MTV News they'd made cross-country pilgrimages, while still others came from as far as Tokyo and South Africa to hail Queen B.

But those are just the hints, peripheral proof. The presence of First Lady Michelle Obama at last night's concert left little doubt that the little girl from Houston, who joined a girl group and then struck out on her own, had seen another benchmark in her relatively young career. After exchanging letters in recent months, with each calling the other a role model for girls, Obama turned up in a sleeveless green sheath waving like royalty from a balcony in Ovation Hall.

A little after 10 p.m., as the pounding opening march from "End of Time" kicked in, Beyoncé appeared in silhouette; the sequins were hard to make out but the wind-blown mane was impossible to miss. Finally, B, stunning in hot pink Stuart Weitzman heels and a beaded body suit, appeared on the massive stage backed by her dancers.

"Atlantic City, snap your fingers," she commanded, launching into "Love on Top." Without missing a step of the New Edition-inspired choreography, B powered through the song's modulations in an extended vocal showcase. Then she took an exaggerated pause, as if to catch her breath (or to bask in the adulation?), before belting out a final coda. The 30-year-old's comeback was officially under way.

Pushing through hits from her debut solo effort, including "Naughty Boy" and the dancehall-infused "Baby Boy," and Sasha Fierce smashes like "Diva," B defied all post-partum laws as she kept pace with Frank Gatson's acrobatic dance style. ("Y'all don't know how hard I had to work. I had to lose 60 pounds!" she laughed to the crowd later. "They had me eating lettuce.") And just as songs like "Single Ladies" and "Run the World (Girls)" are meant to serve as empowerment manuals for women, it became clear last night that Beyoncé's choreography is meant to do the same: a series of sensual quickstep moves that revolve around the hips and legs. It showed in the Fosse-style swing and formations on songs like "Get Me Bodied," and the strut-heavy footwork on "Freakum Dress."

"Sasha Fierce disappeared, but y'all bringing her back," B joked midway through the euphoric two-hour set.

For one of our favorite numbers, "Party," the 4 singer donned full-on showgirl regalia in a heady rendition that saw confetti coming from the roof and dice-shaped beach balls being tossed through the crowd as dancers in large feathered headdresses magically turned up in the aisles.

There were ballads, of course, at Ovation Hall, the more memorable among them a tribute to Whitney Houston and a cover of Lauryn Hill's classic "Ex Factor." And if Beyoncé reminded us of what we've lost in those gut-wrenching covers — she proved, too, that she's more than ready to carry the weight on her shoulders.

Britney Spears 'X Factor' Deal: By The Numbers

We look at Britney's $15 million deal and what that kind of reality TV money can buy.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>$15 million. Sure, on the surface that number seems pretty gaudy, especially when you consider it's for <a href="/news/articles/1684813/britney-spears-x-factor-judge.jhtml">one season</a>&#8232; of work on a reality TV show that will add up to maybe one month's work in total for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>.</P><P>But we're talking Britney here and when you aim to reel in the big fish you have to use a <I>really</I> big worm. That might explain why Simon Cowell has gone all-in to get Spears to join him and L.A. Reid on the panel of "Factor" this fall. Spears had been rumored for the gig for months, but considering the low profile she's kept since her string of personal problems several years ago &#8212; which included a nearly-total retreat from interviews and unscripted public appearances &#8212; the idea of Britney agreeing to appear on live TV twice a week seemed remote.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale" id="id:1661123" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Cowell typically gets what he wants, though, and now the world is going to see more of Britney than we have since her late 1990s heyday. What does that $15 mil buy you? We break it down ... by the numbers:</P><P><B>$12 million</B>: That's the figure that Jennifer Lopez reportedly earns for her gig on "American Idol." We're not exactly sure what fellow former "Mickey Mouse Club" veteran Christina Aguilera makes for each season of "The Voice," but she reportedly banks $225,000 per episode, which could add up to nearly $10 million a season.</P><P><B>10,721</B>: The approximate number of copies of Spears' <I>Circus</I> album that you could buy with $15 large.</P><P><B>15</B>: The number of Paula Abdul's you could pay for one season of "X Factor" for the price of one Britney Spears.</P><P><B>$131.8 million</B>: Total grosses for Britney's 2009 "The Circus" tour.</P><P><B>$1.5 billion</B>: Total global grosses for Spears' various fragrances, which have sold more than one million bottles in five years.</P><P><B>15</B>: Number of high-end music videos you could make based on the $1 million price tag of Britney's 2004 clip for "Toxic."</P><P><B>750</B>: That's how many $20,000 bras you could buy based on the reported cost of the super high-end 18K gold brassiere Spears wore in her Twister Dance promo.</P><P><B>3</B>: The number of "X Factor" winners who could get paid with Britney's salary for one year.</P><P><B>$485 million</B>: What would be left over after you subtracted Britney's paycheck from what Beyonc&#233; was allegedly offered to join "X Factor."</P><P><B>1</B>: Reality performance shows Spears has appeared on if you count her time on "Star Search" when she was 10.</P><P><B>0</B>: Minutes Spears has spent being a judge on previous reality shows.</P><P><B>18</B>: Years it's been since Britney was a regular on a TV program ("The New Mickey Mouse Club").</P><P><B>13.3</B>: The then-record-setting number of viewers who tuned in to watch a Britney cameo on "Glee" in 2010. (That figure was shattered last year by the <a href="/news/articles/1657456/super-bowl-glee-ratings.jhtml">post-Super Bowl</a>&#8232; figure of 26.8 million for a Michael Jackson-themed show.)</P><P><B>Are you excited about Britney joining "X Factor"? Howard Stern Calls Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez 'Dummies'

Britney will be 'train wreck' on 'X Factor,' new 'America's Got Talent' judge adds at press conference.
By James Montgomery

<P>Howard Stern held court at New York's Friars Club on Thursday in a long-running press conference to promote his upcoming stint as a judge on "America's Got Talent." And in keeping with the spirit of the legendary roasts that take place at the venue, he didn't shy away from taking some shots at his singing-competition contemporaries.</P><P>Stern was asked by a reporter whether he would have signed up for the "Talent" gig if it meant serving on a panel with "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez and newly-announced <a href="/news/articles/1684813/britney-spears-x-factor-judge.jhtml">"X Factor" judge Britney Spears</a> &#8212; as opposed to the "Talent" tandem of Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne &#8212; and, well, let's just say he answered rather directly.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Howard Stern Calls Britney Spears And Jennifer Lopez 'Dummies'" id="vid:768341" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"No, I would not [have], because I think we have the best judging panel out there, out of all these shows. I think that the judges all offer constructive, precise criticism, and I really like it," Stern said. "To sit there with J.Lo and Britney Spears and try to prop those two up, I'd be like a ventriloquist with two dummies; I'm not going to sit there and do that."</P><P>Stern didn't stop there, either. When he was asked for his thoughts on "The X Factor" 's reported <a href="/news/articles/1684879/britney-spears-x-factor-deal-judge.jhtml"> $15 million deal with Spears</a>, the shock jock joked that he was in favor of it ... for slightly dubious reasons, of course.</P><P>"I think it's a wonderful decision; Britney still thinks the world is flat. We're going to tune in to see if she can sort of function through the thing. As far as any real criticism, I think ["X Factor" judges] Simon [Cowell] and L.A. Reid will be doing that," he said. "I think Britney's going to stand there and eat a lollipop and wear a sexy outfit; I don't anticipate great opinions from her. I think she's going to sit there like J.Lo. 'Oh, you're wonderful, you're terrific. You think I could get a perfume endorsement out of this? You think I can perform on the show?' I think that's what it's about, but I think it will be interesting. ... I'll tune in to see what kind of train wreck she is, absolutely."</p>

Kristen Stewart Reviews Rob Pattinson's 'Cosmopolis'

'It's so good, it's so cool, I'm so proud of him,' she gushes to MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Kristen Stewart made quite a statement when she attended the Cannes Film Festival premiere of "Cosmopolis" last week in support of co-star (and boyfriend?) Robert Pattinson. So when MTV News caught up with her during our Sneak Peek Week Q&A for her latest movie, "Snow White and the Huntsman," we had to ask for her review of the film.

"He's so good in it!" Stewart gushed about Pattinson's performance. "He's really, really [good]. I don't even know how he [did it]. I couldn't even understand it. It's so good, it's so cool, I'm so proud of him. Thank God."

The superstar went said her overall experience at the highbrow film bonanza was just as positive as her review of Pattinson's performance.

"It's the ultimate celebration," she said of the glitz and glamour of the fest, which she also attended on behalf of her film "On the Road." "I was so oddly placed in my body, which I'm so unable to do. I was not nervous. I had the greatest time it was so cool."

After its Cannes premiere, critics pointed out the film's odd notes but were divided on whether Pattinson was the perfect choice for the lead role.

Directed by David Cronenberg, the film follows Eric Packer (Pattinson) in the not-too-distant future as he's chauffeured through Manhattan on his way to get a haircut. His entire world is falling apart — his marriage is failing, his financial status is slipping and even his very life is being threatened.

Don't forget to tune into MTV and MTV.com for more Sneak Peek Week fun with stars from "Magic Mike," "That's My Boy" and "Rock of Ages," all leading up to the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards live on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

Nelly Furtado Says 'Big Hoops' Inspired By Odd Future's 'Rawness'

'I was inspired by how dark it sounded and how heavy and visceral,' Furtado tells MTV News about rap collective.
By Jocelyn Vena

Nelly Furtado
Photo: MTV News

Nelly Furtado proclaims her allegiance to a major fashion accessory — hoop earrings — on her feel-good track "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)." While she was influenced by her mall-rat youth when she sat down to make the track with producer Rodney Jerkins, it was also the antic-loving rap outfit Odd Future who sonically creeped inside her and totally shaped the record's sound.

" 'Big Hoops' is a special tune for me for a few different reasons," Furtado told MTV News when she stopped by our office Tuesday to discuss the thumping anthem about loving your jewelry and, more importantly, yourself.

"The state of mind I was in, I was actually listening to a lot of different music a few weeks before," she continued. "I think I was listening to Odd Future or something, and I was inspired by how dark it sounded and how heavy and visceral and how it made your blood feel things. And I just thought, 'Wow — that's really missing in music. We're missing that rawness, that energy and that power.' "

When Furtado decided to embrace her own power, she crafted a tune that expresses who she is when she is onstage — full of bravado and holding her "sword," her microphone. "Hoops" also pays homage to the girl she was as a teen growing up in Canada, hoping to become pop star she is today.

"I think music can tap into a lot of powerful emotions, and I think in the studio on 'Big Hoops' I tapped into a really powerful memory of being 14 years old, completely in love with hip-hop and R&B along with all my friends, and putting on my sister's big hoop earrings and heading down to the mall to hang out with my backpack and jeans," Furtado recalled.

She also shared that, in addition to working on her looks back then, she was also "writing rhymes and hanging out and freestyling on the corner and feeling famous already, even though I clearly wasn't at 14."

Despite not yet having fame and fortune, she explained, there was an emotion she felt then that she still feels now: "But I felt [famous], and I think when you're that age, you have your inner gumption already," she said. "So 'Big Hoops' taps into that power."

"Hoops" is the lead single off her upcoming album, The Spirit Indestructible, out in September. It's her first English-language album since the chart-topping Loose, which she released in 2006. She dropped a Spanish-language album, Mi Plan, in 2009.

Johnny Depp Vs. Rooney Mara: Movie Awards Transformers

Michelle Williams, Elizabeth Banks and Colin Farrell also up for Best On-Screen Transformation at Sunday's show.
By Josh Wigler

On-screen transformations aren't purely dominated by Autobots and Decepticons. Actors can undergo their own forms of cinematic overhauls too, from makeup-heavy makeovers to complete 180-degree turns against type to — as the case may be — shocking returns to one's original form.

All of these and more are represented in the Best On-Screen Transformation category at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. This year's nominees include the twice-nominated Colin Farrell for his dirtbaggy turn in "Horrible Bosses" and "Hunger Games" favorite Elizabeth Banks' perfectly pink metamorphosis as the irrepressible Effie Trinket, among others.

There's no shortage of worthy candidates for the Best On-Screen Transformation award, but which nominee will walk away feasting on Golden Popcorn? You can make that choice for yourself by voting over at MovieAwards.MTV.com — but first, let's re-examine each of the nominees, shall we?

Colin Farrell, "Horrible Bosses"
The Irish actor is the epitome of the leading man: dark-haired, dark-eyed, smoky-voiced, with an enormous list of credits to his name including "S.W.A.T." and his Golden Globe-winning turn in "In Bruges." None of those qualities are on display in Farrell's "Horrible Bosses" performance as coke fiend Bobby Pellitt, a balding, overweight son of a you-know-what. His physical transformation is as shocking as Tom Cruise's Les Grossman of "Tropic Thunder" fame. It's no less award-worthy, either.

Elizabeth Banks, "The Hunger Games"
Banks was a huge "Hunger Games" fan well before the movie ever got into motion, and her adoration for the world of Panem shines brightly through her performance as the bubbly Effie. It's no easy task trying to recognize the "Zack and Miri" actress beneath the layers upon layers of pink-and-pale powder, but trust us, she's there — and she'll be there for many years to come, thanks to the huge success of the first "Hunger Games" film.

Johnny Depp, "21 Jump Street"
We did it, guys! No, seriously, we did — MTV News long championed for a Depp cameo in Jonah Hill's "21 Jump Street," and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star delivered with flying colors. Aside from the fact that Depp is virtually unrecognizable in the role, it's the hilarious and astonishing way that his part plays out that proves just how much of a transformation this "Jump Street" throwback really was for the Oscar-nominated actor.

Michelle Williams, "My Week With Marilyn"
As Jamie Foxx and Philip Seymour Hoffman will happily tell you, getting under the skin of real-life historical figures is a great way to win yourself an Oscar. That tactic didn't work for Williams at this year's Academy Awards, but it could very easily lead to a Golden Popcorn trophy at the Movie Awards on Sunday. Williams is virtually unrecognizable as Monroe, slipping into the iconic entertainer's tragic life with ease.

Rooney Mara, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"
If I were a betting man, I'd put money on Mara taking home the Best On-Screen Transformation award. Seriously, did any of these other candidates get their no-no parts pierced for their roles? I didn't think so! Beyond the long-term physical adjustments she made to her own body, Mara embraced punk-hacker Lisbeth Salander's cold and calculating personality wholeheartedly, convincing us beyond a shadow of a doubt that she truly was the girl who played with fire.

'Bridesmaids' Battle: A Movie Awards Funny Face-Off

Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, plus Jonah Hill, Zach Galifianakis and Oliver Cooper, vie for Best Comedic Performance this Sunday.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

We are now just five days away from the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards, when the fierce competition among the year's best movies comes to an end and we find out who you picked to win it all. For your answers, you'll have to tune in at 9 p.m. ET this Sunday, June 3.

In the comedy categories, "Bridesmaids" and "21 Jump Street" lead a pack of outrageously funny movies with a ton of nominations, but when it comes to Best Comedic Performance, it's every man and woman for themselves.

Here's our rundown of the Best Comedic Performance nominees:

Jonah Hill, "21 Jump Street"
Only one of this year's nominees for Best Comedic Performance took a knife to the shoulder and didn't even notice. For "21 Jump Street," Hill was lean, mean and one of the worst movie cops we've ever seen. Yes, Schmidt and Jenko eventually brought down the high school's drug ring, but watching them fail miserably along the way made for classic comedy.

Kristen Wiig, "Bridesmaids"
Comedy is hard enough when you have to take the words from a page and make them funny. Kristen Wiig did one better: She co-wrote the words on the page and then made them hilarious. As the fearless, unfortunate leader of one of last year's biggest comedies, Wiig proved she is indeed ready for prime time, that she could lead a movie, and that you should never eat Brazilian before heading to a wedding-dress fitting.

Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids"
The Melissa McCarthy people were familiar with before "Bridesmaids" was anything but her character, Megan. She typically played sweet, feminine characters, like Sookie on "Gilmore Girls." For "Bridesmaids," she stripped away everything from the recognizable McCarthy and became the national-security-obsessed puppy-hoarder and scene-stealer that earned every bit of an Academy Award nomination.

Oliver Cooper, "Project X"
You'll never throw the biggest and best party of all time, unless you add an element of danger just to mix things up. For the three friends in "Project X," Oliver Cooper's Costa was that guy. He's the one who will always have the perfectly timed sarcastic quip to pair with his sweater vest.

Zach Galifianakis, "The Hangover Part II"
He once was a lone wolf, but in the first "Hangover," movie Alan found his wolf pack and roofied his way into America's heart. For the second time around, we got even more Alan but a lot less hair. Even if "Hangover Part II" had the same story as "Part I," more Alan is never a bad thing.

Britney Spears Joins 'X Factor' As A Judge

Pop star will earn a reported $15 million for one season.
By Katie Byrne

<P>Move over, Christina! Now that "The Voice" has wrapped, it's time for another Mouseketeer-turned-diva to judge future music stars: Britney Spears has reportedly signed a deal to be a judge on "The X Factor," according to <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/its_official_britney_spears_signs_x/312961" target="_blank">E! News</a>.</P><P>News first broke in early March that the pop star was in negotiations to join the panel of Fox's reality singing competition, and last month, it was reported that Spears was being offered $15 million for one season of the show &#8212; $3 million more than Jennifer Lopez earns as a judge on "American Idol."</P><P>"The contract is signed," a source told E! "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she's on. It's all completed and Britney is beyond excited."</P><P>In an April interview with <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/04/17/simon-cowell-britney-spears-x-factor-tmz-live/" target="_blank">TMZ</a>, Cowell remained mum about the Spears negotiation rumors but admitted that he would "love" to have her on "X Factor."</P><P>"I think it would be a coup," he said. "I think she would be a fascinating person to sit next to, so we'll have to wait and see."</P><P>Spears will join returning mentors Cowell and record executive L.A. Reid on the panel.</P><P>Several stars &#8212; from <a href="/news/articles/1684320/x-factor-judges-miley-cyrus-britney-spears.jhtml">Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato</a> to Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey &#8212; were reportedly discussed as possible <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">replacements for Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a> before Spears became the front-runner. There's no word yet on whether one of those rumored contenders (or anyone, for that matter) will join the show as a fourth judge.</P><P>"The X Factor" returns to Fox in September, with auditions already under way.</P><P><i>Are you excited for Britney to join "The X Factor"? Let us know in the comments!</i></P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></p>

Usher's 'Climax' Is 'Not About Sex'

Looking 4 Myself single is about reaching 'a place where you're gonna dive in or let it go,' Usher explains on 'MTV First.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> admits that "over the last three years of my life, it's no secret I went through some heavy transitions." And he's not joking. In 2009, he filed for a <a href="/news/articles/1613894/usher-files-divorce.jhtml">divorce from his wife</a>, Tameka Foster, after <a href="/news/articles/1566367/usher-gets-married-after-all.jhtml">marrying her in 2007</a>. In the lead-up to the split, their relationship certainly came with drama, including a rift with his mother and a major health scare for Foster during a 2009 trip to Brazil.</P><P>And even with his divorce finalized, Usher is still in and out of court dealing with custody issues over their two sons, Usher and Naviyd. However, he is ready to put all that drama aside now that he's purged those emotions for his June 12 album release, the aptly titled <a href="/news/articles/1685178/usher-looking-4-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking 4 Myself</i></a>.</P><P>"There's an emotional side to it. Over the last three years of my life, it's no secret I went through some heavy transitions and in that I really came out new," he told MTV News during "MTV First." "I came out feeling a sense of entitlement and a sense of ownership of all of that I went through to become better and in being able to survive it.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Gets Shot In His 'Climax' Performance" id="vid:767991.id:1685137" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"So I was looking for something in the music," he continued. "I was looking for something in life. I was looking for something in it has always been right here. It has always been there. So I kind of used the music as a dairy in a way, but a creative, artistic, art-in-motion diary."</P><P>But, Usher is no stranger to putting his drama to music. With albums titled <i>Confessions</i> and <i>Raymond v. Raymond,</i> he has always put his personal business right where people can hear it.</P><P>"Oddly, I've unfortunately left my life an open book," he said. "So every record people would assume that each and every detail is specific, even the videos."</P><P>That includes his most recent clip for "Climax," which follows jilted lover Usher as he contemplates shooting his girl's other man. Soon, he charges in the house, and a gunshot is fired off. What's unclear is whether it's reality or just Usher's fantasy.</P><P>"OK, I'm not sitting out in front of somebody's house and shoot up the crib, just so you know," he joked. " 'Climax' was an interpretation to really give people a better understanding 'cause I felt like people really looked at the record for what you heard first, which was 'Climax'. So, people thought 'sex.' It's not about sex. Well, climax is about sex, but not the song. Just so we're clear."</P><P>The Diplo-produced track actually has more to do with the events of the last few years of his life than events in the bedroom. "The song is really about kind of the crescendo of a relationship, where you've reached a place where you're gonna dive in or let it go," he said. "And the 'Climax' is what it is."</p>

Marvel Casting Round-Up: 'Thor 2,' 'Iron Man 3' Add Villains

Plus, Jon Favreau confirms that he's reprising his role as Tony Stark's driver, Happy Hogan, in 'Iron Man 3.'
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Although "Men in Black 3" seems poised to knock "The Avengers" out of the top spot at the box office this weekend, Marvel Studios is already well into planning its next movies.

Just last night, the studio announced casting for villains in the upcoming sequels "Thor 2" and "Iron Man 3", while Jon Favreau confirmed he would reprise his role as Tony Stark's driver, Happy Hogan.

In two separate scoops from Variety, the trade paper reported that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play the villain in the Alan Taylor-directed "Thor" sequel, and that Ashley Hamilton, son of George, could join "Iron Man 3" as the villain Firepower. The identity of Mikkelsen's potential character has yet to be revealed.

And while he won't be returning to direct the third "Iron Man" movie, Jon Favreau will be coming back to reprise his role as Happy Hogan. The actor-turned-director tweeted a photo of his personalized chair from the set of "Iron Man 3."

Favreau had previously turned down an offer to direct his third "Iron Man" film, allowing "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" director Shane Black to take a crack at billionaire playboy and philanthropist Tony Stark. It was unclear whether Favreau would return to play Happy, who had a significantly larger role in "Iron Man 2," but recent word that Favreau would still be largely involved is now confirmed.

Rumors have already begun to circulate about the identity of Mikkelsen's character. The most popular theory involves a character called the Executioner, a rumor started by Bleeding Cool.

"Thor 2" is scheduled to go in front of cameras later this year for a fall 2013 release, while production on "Iron Man 3" is already under way for its summer 2013 bow.

Michael Jackson Doctor Can't Afford Lawyer For Appeal

Conrad Murray asks judge for a court-appointed attorney to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>Just weeks after being sent to jail for <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">four years</a> following a conviction on a felony involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Michael Jackson</a>, cardiologist Conrad Murray is throwing himself on the mercy of the court.</P><P>The doctor had been slated to earn up to $150,000 a month to act as Jackson's personal physician before the pop icon's death in June 2009 from an overdose of the Murray-administered surgical anesthetic propofol. But on Tuesday <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/conrad_murray_in_shackles_asks/280479" target="_blank"><I>E! News</I></a> reported that Murray filed a <a href="/news/articles/1675343/conrad-murray-conviction-appeal.jhtml">notice of appeal</a> in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he is "indigent and respectfully requests the appointment of counsel on appeal."</P><P>Murray, 58, is planning to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, but has not yet filed papers with the California Appeals Court. He had hired two lawyers to handle his manslaughter case, but is now seeking attorneys with appeal experience. One of those former lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, told E! that he was shocked at how his client is being treated in jail.</P><P>"It is crazy and unbelievable how [the sheriffs] are treating" Murray in jail, said Flanagan, who claimed he waited over an hour to see Murray, who was brought out in handcuffs and leg chains. Flanagan was further shocked to see Murray handcuffed to the table for their meeting, something the lawyer said he'd never seen before in the case of a low-level, non-violent offender.</P><P>Charles Peckham, who is handling civil cases against Murray, told the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/doctor-convicted-in-michael-jacksons-death-seeking-court-paid-attorney-for-appeal/2011/12/13/gIQAHIYGsO_story.html" target="_blank"><I>Associated Press</I></a> that his client is under tight security and isolation that is more intense than other inmates at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail.</P><P>"Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive," said Peckham. "This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they're going to [make] him pay like a mass-murderer." Sheriff's officials defended the tight security, saying it was for Murray's safety.</p>
